In this post, we discuss the essential steps we follow when installing countertops in Toronto-area kitchens.
Let’s get started.
Your choice of countertop plays a crucial role in not only enhancing its beauty but also its usability. From selecting the right material to coordinating with our skilled workers, let’s explore what needs to be followed for hassle-free kitchen countertops installation in Toronto.
Before the installation process starts, homeowners need to clear out their kitchen. This includes moving utensils, boxes, bins, and kitchen appliances like toasters and coffee machines. This makes space for the professionals to take measurements and proceed with the rest of the installation process.
Once the space is cleared, the installers can then plan the setup of the kitchen countertop. They will measure the available space, a process called templating. (Specifically, this is the process of taking the exact measurements of the kitchen countertop to give the installer a precise idea about its placement.)
Before starting the installation, plumbing will be removed from the sink as will any other fixtures that the countertop installation may affect.
To avoid leaks or water damage, turn off the water supply. To prevent tools or debris from damaging the pipes, cover them with tape or protective coverings.
In order to fit the new countertop, it may be necessary to alter the plumbing arrangement.
Our skilled professionals will start by taking precise measurements of the width, depth, and height of your appliances and sink. Using this information, the size and arrangement of the cutouts for the slabs will be determined.
They will then check for any leaks from pipes under the sink or around the fixtures and tighten the connections or reseal where necessary. Silicone or caulking is used to seal any damage around the fixtures and prevent water from seeping onto the surface.
The fabrication process is conducted at our facility, and the first step includes cutting the stone to approximately 1/16 of an inch of the final size. Subsequently, the size of the stone or stones on the table is programmed into the CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machine. Next, the CNC device is configured to identify the positions of the stones and determine the appropriate actions for each piece. The task is completed by a well-trained operator.
Now it’s time to install your countertop. Your installers will apply a small amount of construction adhesive on the countertop surface and edges. This will lessen the countertop’s tendency to move over time and help keep it firmly in place. Then, the countertop is carefully lifted into position and set up over the surface with the adhesive.
Once the countertop is properly positioned, clamps are used to temporarily hold it in place. After ensuring its placement, it is secured by screws.
Epoxy or seam filler is used to seal any joints or seams. Using a putty knife, they will level out the seam filler and let it thoroughly dry. A final coat of sealant is applied to the countertop surface to prevent stains, scratches, and other damage. Let it dry completely before using the countertop.
Your installers will clean up before they go, but be sure to vacuum up any remaining dust on the countertop or floor. Cleaning enhances the beauty of stone countertops and increases its lifespan. Natural stones like granite and quartzite are highly resilient, and proper maintenance can prolong their lifespan.
MaxSpace Stone Works uses three types of natural stones for countertop installation in Toronto. Let us go through each one’s qualities:
This igneous rock is one of the most popular choices for a kitchen countertop due to its heat and scratch-resistant qualities. Granite comes in warm colours such as beige, ivory, brown, and white, with black and dark blue veining. It is one of the most durable countertop materials, which ensures its longevity.
This metamorphic rock resembles marble but is harder and denser. Unlike granite, quartzite is not fully heat resistant, so it can be damaged by prolonged exposure to heat. It is available in diverse colours, such as white, off-white, and beige, with grey or brown veining.
Known for its translucency and unconventional look, this rare and lightweight stone can be backlit to showcase its vibrant veining and exquisite swirling patterns. These make onyx a distinctive addition to any kitchen.
Countertop installation is a time-consuming process and requires proper knowledge, so it must be done by skilled professionals. They take measurements, cut out spaces for sinks and appliances in the slab, place the new countertop and seal it. Natural stone countertop materials like granite and quartzite are durable and luxurious, whereas onyx gives an unconventional look. All can last decades when cared for properly.
