Quartzite is a hard, non-foliated metamorphic rock that was originally pure quartz sandstone. It has the look of marble but is comparatively harder and denser. Quartzite countertops are popular because of their versatility; they can be used in any decor based on their colour choices and cut possibilities. Quartzite is very resistant to scratches, except when it comes to prolonged heat. You also have to be careful to distinguish between ‘hard’ quartzite (which is the pure and durable type) and ‘soft’ quartzite (which is softer and more marble-like).
